Early this morning at about 3:30 am Pacific Time, Pastor Chuck Smith went home to be with the Lord. Chuck was a man who was bigger than life with an influence that spanned worldwide through the movement that God used him to birth. He impacted millions with his Bible teaching and leadership and was a personal mentor and friend to Pastor Skip. While the news brings sorrow, Paul noted that we do not "sorrow as others who have no hope" (1 Thessalonians 4:13). We know that Chuck is now enjoying his eternal reward that he so eloquently preached for well over sixty years, and we also know that soon our tears will be wiped away and the joys of heaven will eclipse our own momentary grief.
Our staff prayed on Tuesday for Pastor Chuck, and now we ask everyone to pray for his family and for the staff at Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa. As Chuck is enjoying his heavenly reward, we celebrate his life and his ministry knowing that he has heard from the Lord Himself, "Well done, good and faithful servant" (Matthew 25:21).
